Stop riding – start DRIVING! One of the most important things a driver can do for the environment is to decide when it’s necessary to drive, and when it’s possible to travel by greener means. That discussion and decision-making process is part of the Alberta Driver’s Ed curriculum approved by Alberta Transportation. We know that many young people that get their license won’t actually be getting their own vehicle (because in most cases the economics don’t support that decision!) and even those that do won’t be driving every day because of variable costs like fuel and parking. Even so, we do know that it can really be helpful to household logistics when young people have their license (Class 5 GDL or higher) and can drive unaccompanied when other drivers are too busy.
Archer’s Blue Car Driving School Ltd. goes one step further in greening student driving – we purchase certified carbon offsets to offset the carbon emissions related to the driving lessons we provide. We purchase our carbon offsets from the Carbon Farmer – a local Alberta company located in Manning, Alberta – and have done so since July 2012. In the fall of 2012, the Carbon Farmer was on the television show “The Dragon’s Den”.
