Dominic (Dom) is a Co-Owner of Archer’s Driving School as well as Archer’s main full-time instructor. Most of Dom’s lesson times are scheduled on our blue 2015 Kia Soul. Dom’s teaching schedule is posted on our online booking calendar, and includes a mix of daytimes, evenings, and weekends.
Dom has been a licensed Alberta Class 5 driving instructor (for in-car plus classroom) since 2013. Dom also has had significant additional instructional experience during a 20-year Canadian military career (now retired), where he instructed on a variety of subjects, including training soldiers on driving military vehicles ranging from regular wheeled vehicles to tracked armoured personnel carriers.
While Archer’s classroom instruction is offered in English only, Dominic can provide French language assistance for classroom sessions that he instructs (Dom and Kelly alternate classroom instructing), and can provide primary French language instruction for in-vehicle lessons on request.
Dom’s favourite saying: “After a 20-year military career that included combat experience, teaching brand new unskilled drivers doesn’t scare me.”
Kelly is a Co-Owner of Archer’s Driving School, as well as a part-time instructor, with availability on certain evenings and weekends. Most of Kelly’s lesson times are taught on Archer’s original blue car, their 2009 Kia Rondo.
Kelly has been a licensed Alberta Class 5 driving instructor since 2008 (licensed classroom instructor since 2007). Kelly also has a BMI 200 (Becoming a Master Instructor) certificate from NAIT. NAIT’s BMI program is a ‘train-the-trainer’ curriculum that helps knowledge experts in various fields develop a teaching practice (ex: all NAIT’s technical instructors of any discipline must complete the BMI series as part of their employment), and provides important strategies and skills to apply in teaching adult learners.
Kelly has been a licensed driver since she was 16, and was driving dirt bikes and farm trucks even earlier than that (off-road on private property, growing up on a farm). Waaaayyyy back then, there was no such thing as a GDL system, and she learned things the Hard Way, by making all of her own mistakes, and once she was interacting with traffic on public roadways, she made a lot of mistakes!
Kelly’s favourite saying: “Save time, and learn from other people’s mistakes.”
Kelly’s favourite (non-driving) saying: “Fruit juice is NOT a health food!”
Carol is a licensed Alberta driving instructor, and an independent contractor-instructor with Archer’s. Carol’s training car is a silver 2012 Honda Civic – don’t worry, it has an Archer’s blue attitude on the inside! Carol’s teaching schedule is mainly Monday to Friday daytimes, with occasional early evenings.
Carol has an impressive amount of driving instructor experience. She has been in the Alberta driver training industry for over 25 years, including a period of time as an Alberta Driving Examiner – examining candidates on their Road Tests! She always has great advice to give her students during their lessons.
Carol’s favourite saying: “You always need to do a Full Stop at a stop sign, even if there’s no traffic.” and “Sometimes you have to do it just because it’s the rules.”
